Payment is required on the day of your appointment. We prefer card payments however cash and bank transfer options are also available for your convenience. To ensure your out of pocket expenses are minimised, we have a TYRO terminal at the Centre which processes rebates and Private Health Fund claims on the spot. This prevents the need for you to contact your Fund or Medicare separately, and your rebate generally clears on the same day of payment, often within minutes.

We are happy to invoice third party agencies by negotiation, however we must be aware that an agency is paying for a service before you attend for an appointment and written confirmation must be provided to us (email is sufficient).

Cost Structure

The cost of sessions will vary depending on the type of assessment or intervention required. At The Jacaranda Centre our approach is to assess only when indicated and not to proceed with full assessments if the outcome/ diagnosis can be concluded sooner, preventing unnecessary costs to families.

The process and cost of assessment will be discussed with families at the time of referral, or for more complex requests, during the initial appointment with your Psychologist.

All rates are competitive with other local providers and vary depending on the qualifications or experience of the Psychologist. At The Jacaranda Centre we provide a payment structure to the psychologists in line with the Public Health structure of seniority, such that the more senior a psychologist is, the higher their rate.

Fees range from $95 to see a Provisional Psychologist, $205-215 for a Psychologist and $250 for a Senior Clinical Psychologist/ Principal Psychologist per regular 60 minute session.

Medicare rebates range from $92.90 – $136.35 with an eligible referral.

Referrals and Rebates Explained

A referral to see a Psychologist is NOT necessary, however without a referral from either a GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist you cannot claim a government funded Medicare rebate (see below).

The majority of people attending for our services have been encouraged to attend by their GP who has often provided for them a Mental Health Plan, which enables the client to claim up to 10 rebates per calendar year (ie., January 1 – December 31 in any year).

The rebates available with a Mental Health Plan are either $92.90 to $136.35, reducing your out of pocket expense considerably.

You are welcome to call and make an appointment before you have a referral if you know you will be obtaining one to bring with you to your first visit. You can also make an appointment without a referral if you are wanting to pay for the session in full, will be accessing rebates through your Private Health Fund or an agency is paying for your appointment.

We encourage you to check with your Private Health Fund prior to attending so that you know what your costs will be, otherwise we can provide you with a quote via our TYRO terminal if you attend the Centre.

  • NDIS – We are a registered NDIS provider for Early Intervention and Therapeutic Supports but currently have only limited availability for ongoing therapy. We are able to provide assessments using NDIS plans if required and if the scope of the plan allows for this.
  • Your child’s NDIS plan must be sent to us before we agree to meet you, so that we can determine if the goals in the plan, the budget and item codes for funding match your request and goals for psychology involvement to ensure we are able to cater to your needs.
